This book, written by a South Korean author is stunning. It’s a visceral, violent, sexual, strange smack in the face. Originally comprised as three separate novellas, each section stands on its own, but is a doozy as a complied work. Han Kang writes one of the most vivid family dinner scenes I’ve ever read. (As an aside, the translator, Deborah Smith had only begun learning Korean six years before she attempted the translation for The Vegetarian.)
