I’m not quite sure how I am supposed to write about this book. I only know that I must. My Absolute Darling centers around Turtle, a 14-year old girl living in the woods of Northern California with her survivalist father, who is both her protector and her abuser. The undercurrent of this book is so dark, it’s sometimes almost unbearable to read. And yet, I could not turn away. You’ll never read more stunning descriptions of nature nor will you ever meet a character you’ll root for more. To follow Turtle is to go down a true rabbit hole, one that will leave you tortured, tearing through pages at midnight.
