If you haven’t read Jenny Ofill yet, you should. Start with Dept. of Speculation (and feel so happy that you have another book of hers to read after!) Offil is queen of the sentence punch to head. Her observations of the world stated with stark simplicity and drop dead perfection leave you breathless. Weather is set during the post 2016 election (and the twilight zone feeling we experienced then translates beautifully to our current insane moment in time.) The book centers around Lizzie, a librarian who worries about her younger brother and muses on marriage and motherhood, climate change and aging. Weather is brisk, meandering but also an incredible sucker punch.
